In case you didn't know---
A group from the Nifty Fifties went on a cruise!!
It took some planning, so we met at CiCi's in Owasso on August 16 to figure it out!!
Alfred & Darlene gave advice to Charlie and Tunnie and to David and Delcy Duhham.
Lola, Don/Carolyn Brinkley, Bob, and Wanda made plans while Kathy tried to decide where she was!!!
Shirlene and Joyce went over their itenery with Joyce;s friend, Jack.
Francis came to instruct Wanda in the art of sailing cruise ships!!!
Just to varify that we took pictures of the planning and the trip itself.
Early (5:30 a.m.) we waited to board our Continental Express Jet for Newark, NJ
The Express Jet only held about 60 passengers, but it was a great smooth ride to NYC.
Susye's thinks she's going back packing---
Tunnie gives Charlie the flight plan---
Bruce gets a quick nap---
Val watches for the plane while Carolyn and Delcy wait patiently---
The jet took off right on time and the flight was exceptionally smooth. The trip took about 3 hours and everone really enjoyed the "first rate meal" that was served!!! Naps, reading, and visiting passed away the time as we crossed the eastern half or the USA.
THE PASSENGERS!!
Nineteen of us flew out of Tulsa with Frank and Shirley flying from Houston and Murrell taking the train from Alexandria, Virginia.
JT pointed out that this was the first time she had a aisle seat and a window seat at the same time!!!! Advantage of flying on Express Jet.
Ah, yes!! One of the guests was just aching to have peanuts dropped in his mouth, but I had no guts!!!!
Arriving on time and just behind Frank and Shirley we waited for our transfer to the ship from the airport. Had a great rep from Carnival lines that got us on the right bus.
It wasn't planned but Don Brinkley got his wish---the bus driver said we had plenty of time to reach the ship so he took us on a lengthy tour of downtown NYC. He spent at least 45 minutes driving us around to all the places he thought we'd enjoy seeing---and we did!!!
(Oh, yes, we'll eventually get to the ship!!!!!)
Empire State Bldg. from the bus.
Holland Tunnel from NJ to NYC
Can you figure this one out?

More activity in Rockafeller Plaza
Oh, oh!! I think I see it just ahead--yep----our ship--Carnival Victory!!
Good picture by Shirlene!!
This would be home for the next five and one half days. The ship carries a total passenger load of over 3,400 plus a crew of nearly 1,300. Other photos will be seen of the ship later.
Just think--the a.m. we were having breakfast at the airport in Tulsa and in mid-afternoon we're aboard the Carnival Victory in New York City harbor. Here are some views of the city from the Lido Deck (deck 9) of the ship.
NYPD patrolling the harbor.
Everyone on deck as we passed the Statue of Liberty

Well, let's take a look around the ship before the activities begin--
One of three glass elevator in the atrium.
The atrium in the center of the ship is 9 stories high!!
Susye gave a performance on stage in the HUGE auditorium---
---it was so inspiring that this is what was left of the crowd!!!
The auditorium seated over 1600 and used daily for many activities.
The chandelier was a focal point in the auditorium.
More of the ship later-----
Had seating problems the first night, but it was taken of by the next night.
Most dinners were semi-casual with only one formal dinner required.
Lola ('50), sister, Wanda ('58), Murrell Roberts Coast ('52) and Don/Carolyn ('55).
Across the table was Kathy ('56), Emma ('57) and husband Val.
Tunnie and Shirley sat across from Frank and Charlie.
and me.
That makes 22
for dinner. You don't think any-
one would miss a meal---
.
Smile--you're on Candid Cmera!!
After dinner it was time to take in the nights entertainment --------
Left:Val/Emma, Charlie/Tunnie, Bruce/Shirley. Right: David/Delcy, JT/Bob. Kathy/Wanda/Susye, Carolyn/Don.
The night owls went out after the entertainment--enjoy the "sing-a-long" gang????
Every night one of these little guys greeted you when you returned to your room!!!
Our first stop was in the province of New Brunswick the port of St. John's. Several land excursions were available. Here are a few of the pictures taken on one of the bus rides.
Ready to board the bus to tour around St. John.
FR: Murrell, JT, Bob, Kathy, Val. Back: Susye, Bruce, Emma, & Shirley.
Sgt. Ron was there to watch over Susye, Bob, and JT as they got in the Canadian mood.
Reversing Falls--When the tide is out the river runs toward the sea, the as the tide comes in these falls become a calm lagoon, and then as the tide reaches its height the flow of the water reverses and the water runs up stream. Only place in the world where this happens.
Emma, Val, Shirley, Bruce, JT, & Susye at Reversing Falls
OK, JT, here's proof for Jack that you were in Canada like you said you were--little did you know that your luggage would stay longer than you did!!!!
Our ship "Victory" from high up in St. John.
"The Market" was an indoor shopping mall where all sorts of things were available.
Obviously St. John is a sea varing city.
The major part of the city from the ship.
Cranes for unloading crates.
Lookout built to guard the city from attack by sea.
Textile mill which employs over 30% of the area's population.
As you can see--my pictures of St. John does not do the area justice. Hard to take good pictures through the windows of a bus!! Lovely city that would be very enjoyable if one took their time to see it. Lots of history.
And then there was Halifax, Nova Scotia
Entering the city near the fishing piers.
The harbor was full of activity.
The city is as you can tell a very large and modern city with a population of
Another view of the city from the three mast sailing vessel I took.
The shore excursion I took was on the Tall Ship Silva.
The Silva had a crew of 6---2 college men and 4 college women!! It has a bar below and the crew helped the kids try on wet suits and deep sea diving equipment. The ship sailed throughout the Halifax harbor and the guides did a great job of telling Halifax's history which was very informative.
I think this was the excursion that Bob Coppedge went on but I'm not sure!!!!
View of the city from "The Silva".
Lighthouse located on island in
the harbor.

Next up--"Peggy's Cove". Everyone who's been here says "Don't miss Peggy's Cove" Here's why!!!
The pictures are from the camera's of Frank/Shirley Beu and Shirlene/Don Kerr.
Lola, Shirlene, Don, Kathy, Emma, Val, Bob, & Wanda.
