Work by Nifty Fifties Members Done on Museum
The old depot is the Collinsville Museum and one of the train line's caboose is a part of the museum. They are located south of Main Street on 10th Street.
Bill Thomas is the President of the Historical Society and we (Bill, Darlene Dunn, Al Robinson, and I) have been working with the city to get the museum up and operating again.
A Boy Scout troupe from Owasso is working on the caboose as one of the scout member's project. They have spent the last three Saturdays scraping, sanding, working on the wood sides so they can paint. The painting will be done this Saturday morning.
Wednesday, Darlene, Al, and I worked about 5 hours getting the bushes trimmed, weeds, pulled, brick sidewalks cleaned, weed eated (is that a word) and edged the walkways and curbs. The city workers mowed today so the place is at least getting a start on getting it on the road to re-opening.
The following pictures show the boys working and also the end results of the "Nifty Fifties" work on Wednesday, September 17.

Carl Wahlgren is a Senior at Owasso High School and this is his project. We appreciate the work that he and his scouting friends and families help in helping to restore the old caboose. Other workers include Tyler Lutz, Kevin Lutz, Andrew Storer, Kirk Wahlgren, Scott Storer, Diedra Scott, Conner Bradley, Brian Neldon, and Collin Boureland. (And some of the boys' parents).
Check back on the web site next week sometime and see the results of the boys' work.
Is this what pulled this old caboose?????
Before we got started with the museum on Wednesday we knew there was a lot of work to be done on the outside and when we finished we realized how much more there is to do!!!!!!
Lots more to be done, but hopefully in the spring the city of Collinsville will have the air conditioning and lighting inside finished so we can work toward getting the museum open in '09
