The 8th Annual Awards of Excellence Banquet was held on May 5 in the Collinsville High School Commons Area. We once again honored the top Senior in each of the eleven academic areas. CHS provided us some very distinctive students again this year. We had our largest attendance as to date---112. Our largest crowd prior to this was 88. Thanks to our participating Nifty Fifties members and to the recipients who sold tickets for us we were able to accomplish this milestone.
Below are pictures of the banquet, the recipients, special guests, and presenters. These pictures are due to the generosity of Ted Wright and his web site: www.cvilleok.com.
The plaques given to the recipients are produced by Brown and Hartman Engraving of Tulsa. Wes Hinds, a CHS alumnus, is the salesman that takes care of helps with our selection and orders.
The plaques contain the words "Collinsville Nifty Fifty Alumni Association, the name of the recipient, and the subject in which the student excels. Collinsville High School and the year are on the plaque as well.
The evening began with Lance West making the "Welcome" for Principal Cory Slagle, who was in Houston where he will be living as he is retiring from CHS at the end of the semester. Mr. West is the Assistant Principal and head football coach. The meal that was served included brisket (cooked by Class of '54's Jack Young), baked potato, salad, beverage, and cobbler (either peach or blackberry).
Coach West got the program started by making the opening remarks. Then I presented a program to the students I called "Yesterday and Today" making a visual comparison of C'ville as it looked as we grew up and as it looks today.
The front tables include the presenters and their spouses. Members of the classes of '50, '54, '55, '58, & '59 were able volunteers and did a great job of presenting the students with their well deserved plaques.
This year we had the great fortune of having 2 of our school board members, Memory Ostrander & Wendell Johnson attend. Also, we had the City Manager, Pam Polk & Commissioner Pam Porter as well.
Thanks to them for supporting our efforts.

This page is dedicated to Linda Blunt, CHS counselor----
For the past eight years Linda has given us everything we need in order to meet the students, help out with collection of monies and tickets, giving out scholarship applications, etc, etc, etc. (It goes on and on!!)
Our banquet always comes at her busiest time of the year (testing and enrollment for the next year) and yet she has always come through for us and attended every banquet. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Special entertainment by our music recipients:
CHS is fortunate to have two terrific people who head their music departments (vocal, Mr. Bob Humble and instrumental, Mr. Ron Lewis. Their students are always trained in special ways. We are fortunate to be the recipients of their work at our banquets. Thanks to them both!!!!
Colton Scott entertained us with his wonderful tenor voice. He will be attending Northern State at Tonkawa, Ok. next year.
Cameron Storm wowed the crowd with his expertise on the euphonium. He will be attending the University of Arkansas.
Now these boys have talent!!!!
It was a great evening !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
